Our Story
A Bradley University student, Eagle Scout, brother, and son, Jon Roy was just becoming a man when he and his family were devastated by a fire. The fire destroyed their family home in 1988; the Roy family watched as all their hard work was turned into nothing more than ash on a lawn. Jon may have been changed, but he would always be that Eagle Scout and family man. In the 90’s Jon moved to Ripon, Wisconsin with his soon-to-be wife, Jody -now his wife of more than 20 years- and embarked on the American dream. As Jody began her career in teaching, Jon began working hard jobs- the type he’s always loved best, but Jon was not content to just work. He decided to join the Ripon Area Fire Department in ‘95. Jon was able to save the homes of hardworking families, rescue those beloved pets, and preserve those precious family photos and treasures for his community members. Jon took his own tragedy and turned it into a passionate career in fire prevention and protection.
Another man on the department, Dave Balkowski, had also dedicated his life to helping folks on and off scene. Dave started DRB Fire Extinguishers, a fire extinguisher servicing business during his service as a fireman in Milwaukee. Many years, and fires later, Dave was looking at retiring fully; he knew just the guy to ask. Jon is now the happy owner of DRB Fire Extinguisher Sales & Service; protecting, preventing, and training business owners in his community about the dangers of fire. He is honored to be running the business his longtime friend and colleague started 20+ years ago. Today, Jon and his daughter, Elizabeth, run this family owned and operated business.
Elizabeth was born and raised in Ripon; as with many fire kids, Elizabeth always knew that she would make a career in the fire service. And that she has! Her dedication shows through her work both on and off the job site. Elizabeth has obtained various qualifications in portable fire extinguisher maintenance as well as bookkeeping. Her love for supporting small business like DRB has led her to play an active role in our community. She has volunteered her time on a number of boards, helped out at various events, and spent much time talking with fellow entrepreneurs over coffee! Most recently, Elizabeth has represented local needs by serving on the Foundation for Ripon Community Hospital Board of Directors.
Together, through their dedication to fire safety and community, Jon and Elizabeth work tirelessly to keep Ripon and the surrounding areas #firesafe.
Our Policies
Unless otherwise notified, we do not require payment at the time of service; all invoices must be paid within 30 days of REceival. Invoices may be presented at time of service or in the following days via carbon copy, email, or mail. we accept cash, check, or card payments. ACH payments are accepted under some circumstances, please contact us directly to find out if you meet the requirements for ach.
Late fees are incurred at our discretion. continued failure to make payments may result in removal of tags, service stickers and collars, as well as termination of future services.
Items left in our possession for more than 30 days will be treated as ABANDONED property.
Live Fire Training Cancellation & Attendance Policy:
Given the extent of our preparations for live fire training, failure for the customer and/or their attendees to be present at the designated time or location of a prescheduled training will result in a fee equal to half of the session total. Cancellations of trainings, unless the cancellation is made more than 24 hours prior to the scheduled training date and time, may also result in a fee.
