THE ROY FAMILY

PER USUAL THE DRB FAM HAS BEEN KEEPIN’ IT REAL… WILD. READ ON FOR THE SKINNY ON THESE PAST FEW MONTHS!

JUMPING RIGHT INTO THE BIGGEST NEWS first, as many of you already know, Jon is officially outed as a failed retiree. The big man made the decision to return to the Ripon Area Fire Department a few months ago. Since his return Jon has been a probationary firefighter, driver/operator, and completed a fire officer course! And, yes, he passed. For those of you who may not know, Jon had previously served on the fire department beginning in 1995 through 2018. During his many years of service he fought countless fires as an interior attack fireman, ran many an engine as a driver/operator, trained numerous up-and-coming fire fighters as training officer, and managed countless fire scenes as a Captain. We are very excited and grateful to see what roles Jon will fulfill for the department this time around!

WHILE JON’S BEEN OFF PLAYING WITH FIRE the rest of the DRB Fam has been no less busy! Jody is continuing to work through some post-surgery hiccups which means we can, once again, ask that you keep your fingers crossed for her; she can’t do it herself after all. Most of all the Roy household is VERY pleased to announce that everyone’s favorite family members were finally able to get their baths, nail trims, and haircuts! Elizabeth’s other half was also finally able to get a trim for which he is very grateful even if it was done by a friend in the living room. Alex began his new job as a pressman at Walsworth in February. The upside is he loves it – the downside is he probably won’t be cooking for anyone but Elizabeth any time soon! The pair continue to go to Trivia Tuesday evenings including on Elizabeth’s birthday. The Taters, as they are known in the trivia world, took home first place for the birthday girl but have since been in quite the slump. Perhaps it would be best to cross your fingers for the whole family!

FIRE UPDATE

EXCITING NEW UPDATES FROM NFPA? FROM OUR SLOWEST MONTH TO OUR BUSIEST SEASON HERE’S THE SCOOP ON YOUR DRB CREW’S ANTICS.

DURING THE SLOW SEASON AKA FEBRUARY, your DRB crew kept themselves busy doing all that boring behind the scenes stuff that keeps a business running. From inventory to the annual “file reset” there wasn’t a lack of busy work. For those of you feeling heartbroken thinking of Elizabeth sitting around counting hundreds of O-Rings, we will go ahead and remind you that we are always accepting new customers. Given that shameless plug, we would like to remind folks that March, April, and May are busy, busy, busy! So, if you are looking to get your update done in the first half of the year we urge you to get on the stick in February. Now that we got the nitty gritty stuff over with… well, all we will say is you are going to want to keep a close eye on our Facebook page this coming month! After 15 years, NFPA is finally giving its Fire Protection Handbook an update. So those of you not in the know, NFPA and all its resources are the gold standard for all things fire. Their FPH is uniquely crafted for professionals across industries and includes everything from educational aids to hazard identifications. In short, the FPH is well loved across fields but it has been in desperate need of a face lift. Smart homes and the emergence of new power storage capabilities are just two of the many things that have changed over the last decade and a half. For better or worse, these advances mean new fire risks and the need for updating our knowledge on how to best handle these new situations.

IN OUR COMMUNITY

AS ALWAYS RIPON HAS CONTINUED TO BE A HAPPENING PLACE TO CALL HOME. HERE’S THE DEAL ON ALL THOSE HAPPENINGS…

TO START OFF WE WOULD LIKE to express our sincerest gratitude for all those you aided the Hahn Transport family after their devasting fire. Although unfortunate it was great to see us come together, once again, as a community when one of our own needs it. In less positive community news we want to put a stop to the great Ripon rumor mill. If you have questions or concerns regarding any City entity’s conduct please contact your local representative, city administrator, or the overseeing boards. In other words all we know that you don’t is: our public servants want to hear from you directly and they want to provide you with answers. Click here for the City of Ripon’s committees, commissions, and boards directory. And, just to be clear Johnny’s whereabouts probably do not fall under the category of warranting a call. In lighter City news, our public library has officially embarked on its renovation journey! Ripon Public Library is aiming to raise $1.8 million for the project which entails enhancing programing, ensuring ADA compliance, and expansion of their outdoor footprint. For more information on the “Thinking Outside the Books” campaign please visit: https://riponlibrary.org/renovation/.
